But the highlight was our guide, Luismi, who turned out to be one of the best guides I've ever had. We had a fun and educational excursion to the Maravillas Caves, the Rio Tinto, and the mining area around Nerva. Sergio was an excellent guide; he was friendly and could tell us a lot about the different places. It was a bit of a shame that the program was heavily concentrated around lunch (Rio Tinto, the mines, and Aracena Castle), meaning we couldn't have lunch until 3:00 PM. The final visit to the caves was very special. However, it was entirely in Spanish, so an app with explanations in multiple languages was necessary. The local guide (for the cave) was quite grumpy regarding the mobile phone (for the app) and the fact that you are not allowed to take photos.

My husband and I recently participated in the Iberian Ham Tour. The tour began with a visit to the farm where the pigs are raised. They were very well cared for in a beautiful setting, treated with the sensitivity and respect they deserve. In springtime, there are no acorns for the pigs to eat, but there are beautiful flowers, trees, butterflies, birds, and wonderful aromas. We went to Riotundo and Aracena. We witnessed great driving including where there were narrow turns with the guide not phased by any of this and continuing his tour in both Spanish (native tongue) and English. This tour includes areas of outstanding beauty and interest of which the guide was knowledgeable. As the tour continued I became more accustomed to the pronunciation and googled key words and phrases to help me better understand the tour. There was mention of the wild boar and we passed some en route whilst there was no visit as per the information originally offered when I booked the tour, and aware this was equally missed as per earlier reviews I'd seen.

What will we see during our tour?

Our day trip will start around 9:00 am. Our guide will pick you up at the meeting point you have selected to set off for Aracena, our first stop.

There we will visit the impressive Gruta de las Maravillas (the Cave of Wonders), a natural cave near Seville brimming with geological formations, such as stalagmites and stalactites, that will take your breath away.

After leaving the Cave of Wonders, we will take a walk through the Dehesa de Sierra Morena, a natural area declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO, which is also the habitat of species, such as the Spanish Fighting Bull or the Iberian Pig. This area is world famous for its production of Iberian Ham.

Afterwards, it will be time to take a break for lunch and enjoy the delicious gastronomy of the area in one of its bars or restaurants. Our clients will also have the option of eating their own meal or picnic if they wish.

After lunch, our tour will continue through some of the most beautiful villages in the Sierra de Aracena. We will make a brief stop at the Peña de Arias Montano to enjoy one of the best landscapes in this natural environment.

The last stop of our tour will be at the Riotinto Mines. We will walk through a landscape where it is inevitable to have the impression of being on a strange planet. This effect is due in part to the reddish color of the water as it flows through the iron and copper mines.

Our visit to the Riotinto Mines will be the final stage of our journey. On our way back to Seville, we will feel fulfilled after spending a fantastic day trip in the heart of an amazing natural environment. We hope to arrive in Seville around 19:00h.
